At Dr. M.G.R. Educational and Research Institute University, a major reason
that we teach mainframe computing, is to give our students a broader view
of the IT world and to enable them with skills that set them apart from
their peers.

We offer Mainframe Computing as a standalone Elective course to B.Tech(CSE)
and B.Tech(IT) students. The course is taught along with Hands on training on
the Mainframe. As IBM Mainframe Academic Initiative Participating school,
we have connectivity to mainframe at Marist College.

The students are given hands on on JCL, ISPF, TSO and COBOL on this Mainframe. By taking this course, students gain a firm grounding in the fundamentals of the Mainframe platform with z/OS, JCL and COBOL. Students also gain a familiarity with middleware on the platform, including DB2 and CICS.As IBM Software Centre of Excellence, the students are trained on DB2 and most are also certified on DB2. Our Mainframe students have participated in the IBM Master the Mainframe Contest 2012 India contest and some have won prizes. Recruiters have taken note of these offerings, targeting our students for hiring into the enterprise computing industry. The large-systems skills our students are learning today are preparing them to be the IT leaders of tomorrow.
